Alexandra Nyman of LadyCat is set to make her NYFW debut on February 9th and February 15th of 2019 through her powerful collection “Therapy”.
From YouTube Celebrities Niki and Gabi DeMartino to Beauty Queen Katerina Katakaldies to Plus-Sized Sensation Gabby Fe who has been featured in National Campaigns for TJ Maxx, Target, Amazon, and American Express, Nyman has dressed them all. Nyman, who studied under Season 11 Project Runway Contestant and Season 4 Project Runway All Stars Top 10 Finalist, Benjamin Mach, is set to present her first collection, “Therapy”, during NYFW on February 9th. Nyman’s collection is a testimony to the power of normalizing mental health and seeking help when you need it.
On her collection, she says, “The inspiration for ‘Therapy’ comes from my brother and his mental health journey. He has faced so much since being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and I am in awe of his strength every day. He is my driving force and main inspiration in all I do. I want this collection to inspire others to seek help and to take their mental health seriously. It is my plea to society to open up about their struggles with mental health and to begin to take it as seriously as a physical disability.”
The first act of Nyman’s collection represents the darkest points of depression, the second act represents anxiety and self-doubt, the third represents the introduction of therapy with bright pops of color showing how you can learn ways to cope, and the final act shows a return to depression, but having the tools to cope and get through whatever you face.
A portion of the proceeds for Nyman’s new line, “‘Therapy’, will go to the Trevor Foundation, which was founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR. The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ young people ages 13-24. Every day, The Trevor Project saves young lives through its accredited, free and confidential phone, instant message and text messaging crisis intervention services. A leader and innovator in suicide prevention, The Trevor Project offers the largest safe social networking community for LGBTQ youth, best practice suicide prevention educational trainings, resources for youth and adults, and advocacy initiatives. On the Trevor Project, Nyman says, “Mental health is something that has profoundly impacted my life, and I look forward to presenting this collection to inspire others to seek help without the stigma. This partnership with The Trevor Foundation is so important to me as it allows me to be able to give back to the community. Without the resources provided by The Trevor Project, the world would be a darker place.”
For her show on February 9th, Nyman will feature three Influencers strutting their stuff on the runway, Gabby Fe, who is a plus-sized model and body positivity activist, Christy-Anne Lopez who was crowned Ms. Phillipines World in 2018, and Naty Ashba, a fashion and beauty blogger with a strong following and a powerful look. Nyman is also partnering with Amina Means, a new luxury shoe brand that is set to launch on February 14th, 2019. Amina Means is supplying three pairs of shoes from her new collection to be featured in LadyCat’s show.
For her show on February 15th, Nyman will be showcasing her collection in the FIFI FW show at the Watson Hotel. Before the show, she will be hosting a pop-up in the hotel from 12-2:30pm where she will be raising funds for The Trevor Project and discussing her collection with those who will be attending the show that evening at 7pm.
