LadyCat’s Mission
LadyCat’s mission is to inspire, educate, and advocate for mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorder awareness. All of our clothing is size-inclusive and aims to spread a message of hope. We strive to be advocates within the mental health space as well as the recovery community by continuing this ongoing national conversation in an open and honest manner.
Mental health is something that has profoundly impacted the life of our founder, Alexandra Nyman. It was such a surreal experience to present “Therapy” during NYFW back in 2019. Many people came up to Alexandra after the show to tell her about how mental health has impacted their lives. It was one of the most humbling experiences of her life in order to be able to share these stories with all of you. Partnering with the Trevor Project is so important to LadyCat as it allows us to be able to give back to the community. Without the resources provided by The Trevor Project, the world would be a darker place.
LadyCat also strives to share our passion for fashion by offering free crocheting patterns and commentary on the latest fashion trends through our blog. We believe that by sharing tutorials and educating others on how to create, it will help others to find their unique voice in the fashion community and to spark more creative conversations.
Lastly, LadyCat is a safe haven for cat lovers. During National Cat Day, we donate a portion of our RedBubble sales to the BARC Shelter, which is a no-kill cat shelter located in Brooklyn, NY.
What is LadyCat?
LadyCat is a fashion design house that was established in 2019 by indie fashion designer, Alexandra Nyman. In February 2019, LadyCat launched their first ready-wear collection, “Therapy”. The inspiration for “Therapy” came from Nyman’s younger brother and his mental health journey since his diagnosis of bipolar disorder type ii. In an interview, Nyman went on to explain that, “[my brother] is my driving force and main inspiration in all I do. I wanted this collection to inspire others to seek help and to take their mental health seriously.”
“Therapy” was embraced by a number of Influencers who walked the runway in support of the collection including Celebrity YouTuber, Gabi DeMartino, singer and fashion blogger, Naty Ashba, Actress, Plus Sized Model, and Singer, Gabby Fe, Disabilities Activist, Janira Oberlin, and Christy-Anne Lopez, who held the title of Ms. Phillipines in 2018.
To order from the collection or a custom creation, send us an e-mail to schedule a consultation. LadyCat is size-inclusive and designs for people of all shapes and sizes, we believe you should feel glamorous no matter your measurements.
The Current Collection: “Marry Me Betty”
“Marry Me Betty” is a commentary on generational trauma and a criticism of the expansion of Kendra’s Law by Mayor Adams’, which forcefully hospitalizes those who appear to exhibit signs of mental illness. Nyman hopes her message of breaking free from generational trauma and continuing to seek mental health treatment is one that will resonate with others. She passionately urges members of the New York legislature to pass Daniel’s Law, which treats mental health as a public health issue and not a public safety threat, and has mental health professionals as the first responders for matters of mental health crises.
A portion of the proceeds for this collection will be donated to our non-profit beneficiary, the Break Free Foundation.
